This was the first capital of Sikkim, where according to the historical records, the first Chogyal of the Kingdom of Sikkim. Yuksom is served by all weather roads from Pemayangtse, which is at a distance of 32 km from Yuksom. The trek to Dzongri and to the camp of the famous Mt Kanchenjunga begins here. Several categories of accommodation are available in Yuksom for those desiring to spend a few days there.
The nearest airport is at Bagdogra, about 153 km from Yuksom and a five and half hours drive. This airport is well connected with all the Metro Cities of the country.
It is best to travel in smaller vehicles which are available on the basis, from near the bus terminus, airport and railway stations.
Nearest railway station to Kalimpong is at Siliguri Junction and New Jalpaiguri near Siliguri. The NJP Railway Station is the hub to connect the Northeast India and mainland of the country. That is why all the major passenger trains pass through this station.
